Wednesday Lunch: A Votre Sante
As you may have noticed, our blog has been pretty quiet for a long while, which is something we aim to change in 2011. While we haven’t been given the all-clear by our partners to talk about what Giant Sparrow has been working on, we can at least share more of our quotidian doings.
One of the things we do every week is go out to lunch as a team on Wednesday, and we’ve been eating our way through what Santa Monica and its environs. A few weeks ago, we had a chance to enjoy a meal at A Votre Sante (“To your health!”) up in Brentwood, which is a bit further away from our stomping grounds than we usually travel. I would make crack about their Organic Porridge (it’s oatmeal. Not that there’s anything wrong with oatmeal), but according to Nathan and Joshua it was pretty tasty.
We’ve also grown a fair amount– you may notice some new faces in the above picture. We’ll introduce you to these new folks over the coming weeks.
On a related note as we try to liven up this blog, what sort of things would you like to see here?

I want to hear about the Unfinished Swan!

Unfinished Swan, of course, but also profiles of team members. Who are you and what are you about?

The Unfinished Swan, more specifically the technical challenges you’ve overcome while creating it.

Once you get the green light… document your process! Art tools, development environments, pipelines, equipment. Experiments that work and didn’t work. Prototypes! More about your research on real-world fluid behavior. Pictures of the office environment. And screenshots… lots of screenshots! Super excited.

I too, would like to hear about the Unfinished Swan! I’ve been looking for news about it for a long time. Something, ANYthing, would be great to hear!

It’s been quite a while since you guys have updated the blog, even longer since you’ve talked about the “Unfinished Swan”. I’m wondering if naming it “Unfinished” has inherently cursed it…
As for what I would like to see from you guys, a bit of transparency would be nice. You mention partners and a project you’re working on, and I’d like to hear more about that, even if it all has to indirect as possible. Rich here has a good point, profiles of team members would be interesting as well. All in all, I want to see a bigger, better, more fleshed out giantsparrow.com. I don’t mean you need to overextend yourselves and set up forums, a social network, or anything like that. All I want is a reason to come back to giantsparrow.com on a weekly basis, which so far has been “have they updated yet?”.

I understand that you have partners which are somehow preventing you from talking about your game. However, I find it difficult to anticipate a game whose development I can’t follow (even if only slightly). Weekly, or even monthly posts would be fantastic, even if the only mention of Unfinished Swan specifically is “We’re still working on it, and we still can’t talk about it.” That way, people don’t just take the project for dead. I know I only came back today (after not checking for several months) on a whim and a hope, and I’m still not sure the project is being worked on. You do say you are working on ‘a project’ but you don’t mention the Unfinished Swan specifically. Likewise, as ch3burashka says, I’d like to hear more about these mysterious partners.
I sincerely hope that your partners preventing you from talking about the game doesn’t cause you to lose too many potential buyers through loss of interest. You guys have an amazing and unique concept/game and I can’t wait to see more!
